We planted a trial plot back in 1987 near the Macquarie River (what we refer to as The Broadwater) This was shortlived in terms of production, but those 40 vines grew nevertheless and we knew that the area was perfect.

In 1999- 2000 we revisited the idea. Along with much encouragement from Milly’s late father (Malcolm McEacharn) we prepared a 2.5 hectare plot on the north facing slope adjacent to the Macquarie River. We sought advice from many in the industry. Some thought we were mad. The Midlands? Forget it. One friend (who owned a vineyard) saw our site and totally supported the idea. He (Nick Butler) went on to become our first winemaker, and although he no longer makes our wine he continues to be a terrific support.

The vines were planted in September 2001. Pinot Noir and Riesling varieties are grown. We plan to release a sparkling ‘Blanc de Noir’ in 2011 to commemorate our 10 year anniversary and in memory of Milly’s father.

We are indebted to those who have helped us with our venture. The management of the vineyard is a labour of love (especially on cold winter days) and high standards are maintained. All achieved with support from co workers, friends and terrific winemakers.
