Frank Youl

Frank Youl

The Midlands of Tasmania has a proud farming history, spanning 200 years.

The first family to settle at Barton came from Yorkshire. They built a flour mill and a fine home, and set about working the land. Ownership changed several times in the late 19th and 20th century. We came here in 1985.

Frank is 6th generation Tasmanian and from a farming background. Also a passionate woolgrower, he was able to expand the Merino Sheep stud along with other mixed farming pursuits.

We also opened up a cottage for trout fishing enthusiasts and tourists alongside the Macquarie River. This was rather apt, as Frank’s forebear Sir James Youl was the man who introduced the trout to Australia.
